My teaching career began in 1970 after graduating from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education. After teaching one year in Illinois, the Air Force brought my husband and I to Anchorage.

I taught Junior High School for the State Operated Schools on Fort Richardson while seeking a Masters degree in Reading from the University of Alaska. My teaching career took me to various Anchorage elementary schools and finally to Hanshew Middle School where I taught math and reading classes. During my career, I was honored to receive the Presidential Award for Science Teaching and the BP Teacher of Excellence Award. After retiring from ASD, I taught Reading classes at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

I am honored to provide assistance and encouragement to Alaska's beginning teachers as a UGO mentor in Anchorage. I hope that my teaching experience and mentoring skills will help build confidence in my ECTs as they develop their practice.
